Linguisitcs- Empirical findings - Essay ExampleHypothesis 3 predicted that both corpora would provide more pendant noun clauses than other types of dependent clauses and is confirmed within the interview corpus but not within the linguistic corpus, which contained an even number of adverbial, noun and relative clauses. Hypothesis 4 predicted that the extract taken from a transcribed interview would contain more contractions than the linguistic extract, and is borne out by the results. This study compares two small corpora, to each one comprising three hundred lecture, taken from a linguistic journal and a transcribed interview. The texts are therefore diverse in damage of content, style, register and their proposed audience, and are compared and contrasted in terms of the linguistic properties pertaining to the number and length of sentences, the number and type of dependent clauses, and the use of contractions. The focus on sentence constructions begins by ascertaining the number of sentences within each corpus. The employment of this is that the number of sentences will provide insight as to the length of the sentences, which is measured in terms of the number of words within a punctuated sentence. The higher the number of sentences found within a 300 word corpus, then the shorter the sentences would have to be. The fewer the number of sentences therefore, would realise longer, compound and complex sentences and thus would be anticipate to render more dependent clauses. The second property to be measured in this study is the number and type of dependent clauses used within each text. A dependent clause does not convey a complete idea and therefore is unable to stand by itself in other words a dependent clause relies on an independent clause for meaning. Tallerman (2005) refers to dependent clauses as subordinate clauses and the independent clause, which must contain a finite verb, as the matrix clause. She also tells us that subordinate clauses are often considered as embedded clauses because

The regulation of enzyme activity is the most most important and fundamental frequency control for a jail cell-Discuss - Essay ExampleA cell on the other side is the smallest fundamental unit of life (Alberts 79). Within the cell argon the cell organelles that are charged with specific roles in driving physiological processes of the tree trunk. Most of the physiological processes that take place in the body are initiated at the cellular level, at the same era the cell operation is linked with the enzymes activity. An example is the process of gene expression in the body. Gene expression is the straight transformation of a trait from the molecular level to phonotypical stage. It usually starts with the replication of the DNA (deoxyribonucleic Acid) (Hill 84). The replication of the DNA is enzyme catalyzed and the process continues to the transcription of the DNA to RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) which and then gives the amino acid and is finally translated to proteins that manifests thems elves phenotypically (Alberts 102). In the sequence of gene expression, the cell is charged with the responsi679114bility of determining what enzymes are to be produced and in what quantity. It is the responsibility of the cell to rig what enzyme is required in the body depending on the type of substrate that is present in the body. The situation shows how intimate the two work in enabling the body physiological processes to proceed without a halt. The alternative synthesis and degradation of the enzymes is referred to as the turnover number, this turnover number is dependant on the need of the enzymes in the cell and is regulated by the cell (Hill 166). Increasing the amount of the enzymes in the cell can be done by the cell in two demeanor elevating the synthesis rate of the enzymes or by slowing the rate of the enzyme degradation. The cell in this case has the role to regulate the enzyme content in it which is a pie-eyed exercise owing to the fact that there are millions of enz ymes in the body each effecting a unique role probably at the same time and has to be

Indeed, a fundamental issue reiterated in Syriana is how the role of oil is central to US policy towards the Middle East and the US position within the coetaneous framework of international relations. In turn, the relationship between Matt Damons character Bryan Woodman and Prince Nasir also presents a different insight into Middle easterly politics through Prince Nasirs frustration at American control in the area and his desire to undertake national reform and develop the delivery for sustainability in the long term.Additionally, the increasing work of Bryan Woodmans character with the Prince comes at the sacrif ice of his marriage due to the death of Bryans news. Bryans salary of $175 million from the Prince and role as economic advisor causes his wife to accuse him of exploiting his sons death for commercial gain. To this end, the death of Bryans son and sacrifice of his marriage is arguably symbolic of the central theme of Syriana regarding the interrelationship between oil, globalisation and the balance of power in international relations. For example, it is submitted that the oil effort symbolises the sacrifice of ethical concepts of morality as the control of oil in the Middle East is seen as fundamental to the balance of power within the international framework. This is highlighted by the American unease with Prince Nasir giving a natural gas drilling rights contract to China. The three central stories that interweave throughout the film purposively evidence three very different men operating over various continents to highlight the long term and immediate consequences of pursuing wealth and

Is there something problematic in the idea of European citizenship Essay

Is there something problematic in the idea of European citizenship - Essay ExampleI consider this question to be worth-discussing, thus the given work will try to find the answer for it by means of the corresponding research. First of all, the definition or meaning of the termination citizenship will be provided. In order to find the correct answer to this question, the attention with be paid to such signifi provoket factors as democracy, rights, identity, constitutional patriotism, symbols etc. It will be given a short description of each of these points in order to form the attitude to the problem under consideration. As a result the most problematic issue in the idea of European leadership will be defined and the solution to the problem will be offered. The overview of the recent controversy will be presented in order to prove that even in the modern conditions, it is still possible to determine what it means to be a European citizen. The notion of citizenship The notion of citi zenship is closely connected with the notion of state, because, if there is no state, it is impossible to talk about the citizenship. Democracy also cant exist without citizenship. It looks like a closed circle. In this context it is possible to talk about sovereignty as well. ... It could be easily explained in the following way it is the citizens, who form the body of government. The democracy can operate only due to the equality and participation of citizens. Liebert states people do effectively utilize in the making of a European polity. By initiating national court proceedings active citizens are promoting fundamental European rights in Member States practices. As party members they contribute to shaping mass media communication about, and national publics understanding of, European political alternatives. As civil society activists citizens help build companionable networks for contesting certain EU reforms or advocating others. Last but not least, as voters in national and European elections they choose between competing party visions, and national parliamentary stances regarding the role of democratic citizenship. This original contribution to the debate about democratic citizenship vis-a-vis the challenges of economic globalization and European political integration presents critical explorations of contrasting fields of direct, representative, participatory and deliberative democratic citizenship practices that affect the transformation of Europe (Liebert 20132). One can notice that nowadays these principals are not working in a full capacity some of them are just omitted. As Bellamy states Citizenship as it developed within the member states combined the values of belonging, rights and participation. EU citizenship has essay to develop the first from an attachment to the second, and to employ new and more selective forms of the third. However, neither rights nor participation prove sustainable without a fairly strong maven of belonging, such as has already developed within the

Development of Health Care Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Development of Health Care - Essay ExampleIn Elizabethan times, parishes had to bear with the responsibility of taking care of the sorry living in the community (Liverpool Echo 2009). The poor in those days could benefit from outdoor relief in the form of food, clothing and fuel. However, with an unwieldy appreciation in the poor population, the parishes decided to withdraw this already insufficient outdoor relief and started resorting to indoor relief in the guise of hell like workhouses that required the less low-toned amongst the poor lot of Britain to bear with inhuman work conditions in lieu of a pitiable yet indispensable sustenance (Liverpool Echo 2009). However, the things got worst at the start of the 19th century, which led to the introduction of Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834.Zillions of workhouses came up all across the UK. Poor Relief reduced to a blackened pittance accessible only to those who were willing to opt for exploitative workhouses instead of a hapless exist ence. The life in such workhouses was far from being bearable and homely. value was an elusive pie in the sky that was far beyond the reach of even the relatively well to do poor. In fact, the possibility of affiliating to some workhouse was a ceaseless fear that haunted the deprived families huddled in the slums to bear with their hopeless existence. Workhouse records and Census returns do elaborately testify to the miserable lot of the poor in the 19th century. Workhouses were a dreaded place divested of all hope and future. The moving spirit behind these workhouses was to clasp the living standards of the inmates much below that of the lowest paying labourer. The poor had to bear with subhuman rules and norms, which made their lives frustratingly monotonous (Hull Daily Mail 2007). They had to carry their pitiable status with them in the guise of grey tweed suits and gloomful and white striped dresses (Hull Daily Mail 2007). A harsh policy of gender segregation went to the ext ent of separating even married couples and siblings.Homelessness and abject poverty appropriated at heart their scope a plethora of health problems. The life expectancy amongst the workhouse residents was very low and they exhibited some of the highest death rates in the UK. The poor huddled in the workhouses were four times more prone to accidents and thirty five times more likely to commit suicide (Herald Express 2008). Chest and skin infections, GI troubles, poor circulation, compromised dental hygiene, anaemia, and visual and nutritional problems perpetually defined the life at a workhouse (Herald Express 2008).Yet, the biggest eliminator tended to be the extreme mental and emotional fervour that the poor in Britain had to cope up with in these workhouses. The senseless and absurd practice of classifying the poor by the criteria of deserving poor and the undeserving poor added insult to injury. The deserving being those who were too old or infirm to work while the undeserving being wandering beggars and destitute. The principle of less eligibility smacked of a festering annoyance and intolerability in the society and the state that intended to keep the unemployed deliberately poor and vulnerable to or rather forced to taking jobs for which they were essentially unqualified or averse to (Baggot 2004). Of course, such

Contingency Theory Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Contingency Theory - Research Paper ExampleScience is a process of inquiry and is an organize body of knowledge, and so contingency speculation is a science because it involves the two. Accordingly, contingency theory can as well be categorized technology, and technology refers to activities actual by individuals to satisfy their inevitably. Contingency theory is a body of knowledge and knowledge acquired can be applied in various governances to change to a more efficient processes. Literally, humans develop placements and so the application of contingency theory helps to satisfy their needs (Betts, 2011). This article clearly explains how the operation and mental process of an organization and the environment in which it operates relates. More so, it interprets a clear elaboration of contingency theory as a science and technology. However, some of the weaknesses that have been identified in this article is that the causation that is assumed has not been explained in a more c onvincing manner. According to contingency theorists, there is an association between the environmental conditions and organizational design and this was assumed the best fit. However, this assumption has not been well elaborated and it does not put into consideration other factors that related to organizations performance (Betts, 2011). ... nce of that particular organization, for instance, organizations performance is associated with the internal operational effectiveness and support from external forces. More so, the strategy of Information Technology (IT) in an organization is supposed to be aligned with its business strategy since the performance of a business is promoted by effective alignment between the organizations warlike strategy and technologies that it uses (Croteau and Raymond, 2004). Arguably, the study of competencies alignment and organizations performance is conducted based on the contingency theory. This article thoughtfully describes IT competencies alignment and organizational performance. It proposes that contingency theory covers other issues such as the organizations competencies and strategic orientation and explains how they affect the performance of business (Croteau and Raymond, 2004). On the other hand, this article does not provide useful and convincing explanation of the underlying assumptions, for instance, one of the major assumption of contingency theory is that the better the fit among various contingency variables the better performance of the organization. Furthermore, this theory claims that there is a fit between strategic variables and use of IT and this positively affects the performance of information system (Croteau and Raymond, 2004). Tackling Design Anew Getting covering fire to the Heart of Organizational Theory This article mainly focuses on the importance of organization design, and according to contingency theory, every relevant axis of an organization needs to be present in the organization design (Greenwoo d and Miller, 2010). Moreover, contingency theory suggests that the size of an organization and its geographical cover leads to the
